Industry sources out of Vietnam have been reporting on a new budget Samsung Galaxy phone that should be released on the local market soon. The device in question will likely be called the Galaxy J7 Prime and the original source insists it will be a refresh of last year’s J7and not in direct competition with the J7 (2016). However, looking at the design and suggested specs of the phone, we can only conclude that it offers an all-round update even over this year’s model.

Starting off with the exterior, the phone comes with a fresh new look with rounded corners and 2.5D edges on the front glass. There have been some changes in the controls as well. The main speaker appears to be positioned on the right-hand frame, near the power button and the otherwise-unchanged home button, allegedly houses a fingerprint reader this time around.
As for specs, the source lists an upgraded 1080p, 5.5-inch Super AMOLED panel, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The CPU selection seems to be identical to that of the J7 (2016) and includes a Snapdragon 615 or Samsung’s own Exynos 7870. The latter option sounds great.
As one of the first mid-range chips to be built on a 14nm process, it offers spectacular power efficiency, which combined with the battery-friendly Super AMOLED display and the sizeable 3300 mAh battery, should add up to impressive endurance numbers, just like the ones on this year’s J7. The 13MP plus 5MP camera setup looks identical to the J7 (2016) as well.

Last, but not least, Samsung has promised to retain the competitive price tag, which all adds up to an intriguing budget device that we hope to see soon, hopefully on a global scale.
