HTC this year with the launch of its HTC 10 smartphone appeared set to ditch the ‘One’ moniker it has been using for its last three flagships. However, the Taiwanese company appears to be keeping the ‘One’ series alive for mid-range smartphones by introducing theHTC One S9. The new metal-clad smartphone is listed for EUR 499 (roughly Rs. 33,700) on the company’s Germany website without any availability details.
Talking about the design, the HTC One S9 features nearly the same design as last year’s One M9. While the back panel looks similar, there is a slight change at the front. The One S9 now features two speaker slits instead of the grille seen on the One M9. The front-facing camera and sensor placement remains the same.
As for the specifications, the HTC One S9 features a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution Super LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection and a pixel density of 443ppi. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based smartphone runs HTC Sense UI on top and packs a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor clocked at 2GHz, clubbed with 2GB of RAM.
The HTC One S9 houses 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded via microSD card (up to 2TB). On the camera front, the handset sports a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with BSI sensor, OIS, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash, along with a front-facing 4-Ultrapixel fixed focus BSI sensor with 2um pixels, and f/2.0 aperture.
The 4G LTE-enabled HTC One S9 also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.1, NFC, Miracast, GPS, A-GPS, and Micro-USB for connectivity. Measuring 144.6×69.7×10.09mm, the mid-range smartphone is backed by a 2840mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 13 hours of talk time and 658 hours of standby time on 3G networks. Needless to say, the One S9 also comes with the iconic Boomsound audio technology clubbed with Dolby Audio.
