We rely on AI every day to help us work more efficiently, and we aren’t just building it for our users at Google. Googlers are using tools like Gemini and NotebookLM to automate repetitive tasks, stimulate creativity, and find information more quickly—much like you might use AI in your daily life. We are able to devote time to the most innovative, strategic, and satisfying aspects of our work by utilizing AI as a collaborative partner. Of course, we’re always focused on building and using these tools responsibly, with our people staying in the driver’s seat. However, experiencing AI in action is the most effective way to comprehend its potential for workplace applications. 14 real-world examples of how Googlers use AI every day are presented here.
1. producing code
AI serves as a partner in coding for our developers. Today, 30% of Google’s new code is generated by AI, which our engineers then review and approve. They can build and make changes faster than ever before because of this.
2. increasing speed
AI assists engineers throughout the entire development lifecycle, including code reviews, testing, and migrations, in addition to just writing code. Engineering velocity has probably increased by 10% as a result of this support, saving engineers valuable time that they can now devote to other priorities.
3. fixing bugs and assigning priorities
AI is used by our teams to sort and fix bugs in our systems. Engineers can concentrate their efforts on the most pressing issues first because AI models speed up the process of locating the problem’s cause. An AI agent now handles 12 percent of duplicate bugs automatically.
4. generating new ideas
Gemini is used as a creative assistant by our marketing team. It gives them specific prompts to help them come up with campaign concepts and draft scripts for YouTube videos, reflecting Google’s marketing style and best practices.
5. creating content that is engaging
Gemini is being used by our YouTube Editorial team to quickly extract interesting quotes and their precise timestamps from podcasts. The team is able to come up with more compelling titles, text for thumbnails, and video descriptions for YouTube Insider thanks to this.
6. developing visual assets For major events, we produce visuals using generative AI
At this year’s Google I/O, AI helped create 219 keynote slides. For 48% of the images, we used our Imagen model, and Veo or Imagen models were used in 80% of the videos.
7. putting new ideas to the test
New concepts are put to the test with AI tools by Google DeepMind. AI is a helpful sounding board, whether it’s using Flow and Veo 3 to mock up creative videos or Gemini to look into different ways to pitch new ideas.
8. accelerating sales proposals
We developed an internal AI tool to help our sales teams respond to customer requests more effectively. This tool has directly contributed to a 78% increase in the number of completed Request for Proposals (RFPs) for Google Cloud year over year.
9. improving the quality of sales leads
Our sales team uses Google Cloud’s AI-based lead filtering tool to find the most promising customers. This tool increased the number of leads that were turned into opportunities by 14% over the course of a recent six-week period.
10. Notes from a meeting created by AI
Gemini is able to transcribe conversations in real time and generate summaries of key points and action items during Google Meet calls, allowing you to concentrate on the conversation rather than taking notes. Both Googlers and our clients have utilized these features. Over 50 million people used Google Meet’s AI-powered meeting notes in June alone.
11. protecting our platforms
AI assists our Trust & Safety teams in identifying and flagging content that may be in violation of our policies. When our teams manually review more than one billion pieces of content in 2024 alone, this saves them a significant amount of time.
12. comprehending feedback from employees
In addition, NotebookLM enables us to instantly summarize and identify key themes from thousands of survey responses, making it possible for us to quickly locate information that can be used to improve internal company moments in the future.
13. locating the appropriate talent
While a recruiter is always in charge of the process, our People Operations team uses AI as part of our recruiting process to search our candidate pool and match skills and experience to the right open positions.
14. decreasing food wastage
Our chefs develop menus, preventatively cut down on waste in our cafes, and tailor solutions that are specific to the requirements of each campus by utilizing data from AI-driven insights. We saw a 39% decrease in food waste per Googler between 2019 and 2024.
The real advantage of employing AI in our work lies not solely in its speed, as these examples demonstrate. It also involves giving our teams the authority to think creatively, deal with difficult problems, and devote their time to more strategic endeavors. In the end, AI not only increases productivity and creativity but also results in the creation of new positions and opportunities that enable our teams to concentrate on work with high impact and create ground-breaking products for everyone.
